SLU Wants Pres Board Decision Reviewed

Pevely Dairy at 1001 S. Grand

Last December, St. Louis University (SLU) was denied two out of four permits for the demolition of the National Register listed Pevely Dairy at 1001 South Grand for new construction.  The two denied demolition permits were for the prominent Pevely Dairy office building at the corner of S. Grand and Chouteau and the adjacent smokestack.  If the applicant does not agree with the outcome of the preliminary decision by the Preservation Board they have a few options to appeal the decision.  One option is asking the St. Louis Planning Commission to review the records of the meeting in hopes of overturning the decision.  Tonight, SLU will be asking the commission to review the records of the December 2011 Preservation Board meeting.  The commission will decide either to allow the review to happen or not.  If SLU's request is granted, a second meeting will be scheduled where the actual review process will take place.  If a second meeting does occur only the Preservation Board and St. Louis University will come before the Planning Commission for oral arguments.  This will be a public meeting, however new testimony will not be heard.  Therefore, the public will not be able to speak at the meeting.

If you are interested in attending tonight's meeting to discover if SLU's request for a review will be granted or not, the Planning Commission will meet at 1015 Locust Street, Room 1200 at 5:30PM.
